Basic Information
New Ajman is the name given to the area being developed outside of the current Ajman city, located by the Emirates Road. It is presently ruled by Emir Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi. The Crown prince of the Emirate is Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi. His directions have led to massive development and a construction boom in Ajman in the recent years. One of the first developments of New Ajman is called "The Emirates City", a brand new city located directly on the Emirates Road to be built from scratch consisting of more than 100 mid- and high-rise buildings. A number of shopping malls, hotels and residential villas are also planned to eventually extend all the way to the 'Al Zoura' area, where beachside developments are planned.
Location
Ajman enjoys being located in the middle of the Emirates as a whole. It is bordering Sharjah and only 10 Km away from Dubai in the south and Umm Al Quwain in the north. Ajman is near to the ports of neighboring Emirates. If you are planning to stay there and use it as base to visit Dubai expect traffic jams at rush hours. To get you an idea the average time to get to Dubai in rush hours is of one hour and more. Otherwise, only 20 minutes!
Population
The population of approximately 235,000 is located mainly in the capital, Ajman. The population was only 36,100 in 1980 but grew considerably in recent years, due to an influx of people from the neighboring emirates of Dubai, Sharjah, and other countries.
Religion
Arab Islamic culture predominates in Ajman but everyday life is marked with a high degree of tolerance towards a large expatriate community. Islam first arrived in this region during the lifetime of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). Communities of Christians and other religious denominations practice their religion freely within the UAE.
Climate
Ajman’s climate is very dry, with minimal rainfall. The weather varies depending on distance from the Gulf coast. The climate is pleasant from November to April, with warm sunny days, cool evenings and low humidity. Daytime temperatures range from 18 degrees Celsius to 30 degrees Celsius. From May to September, the summer heat and often-high humidity forces most people to head to cooler climes, with daytime temperatures in excess of 45 degrees Celsius. There are occasional tropical storms from January to March.
