Basic Information
The Emirate of Umm Al Quwain is the
second smallest of the seven United
Arab Emirates with an area of just 750
square kilometres. A look at the map
of the UAE shows that it’s in
the north of the country, along the
coast of the Arabian Gulf and sharing
borders with Sharjah to the west and
Ras Al Khaimah to the east. The city
of Umm Al Quwain is the country’s
commercial, financial and political
capital. Over the last few years the
city has seen massive infrastructure
development properties real estate with
new buildings and amenities and a modern
network of roads that link it with the
other Emirates and the traditional villages
of the area.
Location
The emirate of Umm Al Quwain is the second smallest of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates and covers an area of 750 square kilometers (290 square miles). It is located in the north of the country along the western coast and shares borders with Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah.
Population
With a population of around 36000 Umm al-Qaiwain is the least populous of the seven emirates. Like Ajman, Umm al-Qaiwain is seeking to bring in money from the wealthier emirates through domestic tourism.
Religion
Arab Islamic culture predominates in Umm Al-Quwain but everyday life is marked with a high degree of tolerance towards a large expatriate community. Islam first arrived in this region during the lifetime of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). Communities of Christians and other religious denominations practice their religion freely within the UAE.
Climate
As with the rest of the UAE, Umm Al Quwain's climate is most pleasant November to April with warm sunny days, cool evenings and low humidity. From May to September the climate is hot with midday temperatures in July and August reaching in excess of 45°C.
